Why Environmental Mediation Talks Are Important

By Mary Stewart

Conflicts and disputes are very normal to people that work or live together. People may disagree on a number of issues. A couple may quarrel over infidelity matters while two colleagues can engage in exchange of words just because one of them received an award. All these disputes are settled differently depending on the extent of the damage. There is no need for violence of bitter exchange of words because the end result is more and more conflict. Therefore, people need to adopt conflict resolution methods such as engaging in environmental mediation dialogues.

A mediator acts as a go between two parties that are in conflict. It is necessary for him/her to hold private talks with each party before making them meet. This gives them enough time to learn how to approach both of them once they are in the same room. A mediator needs to be as impartial and rational as possible so that they are not regarded as being bias.

Most countries have always been in conflict. Countries such as the US and Russia are still holding talks to date. Instead of engaging in wars that are costly, both countries need to embrace dialogue so that they can resolve their conflicts. Management of the environment is very important in this case since one factor is likely to affect the other.

There are a number of known cases that that the negotiators have deliberated upon. Examples include; money laundering, land pollution, disagreements caused by local residents. All these issues affect the well being of the environment. This happens since every country has their own unique way of handling matters related to environmental changes.

Mediators are quite few in number especially in the US. The main organization that guides them is known as the US institute. They are assigned different roles and most of them have become successful in their operations. They are trained on how to resolve different levels of conflict between two or more people.

The expert has various roles to play. Supposing an organization wants to appoint a third party to assist them in managing their operations. They will need a mediator to help them make the right choice. Obviously, the third eye is able to see what the rest of the people do not. Once the decision has been made, the new elect can comfortably prove that they did not make the wrong choice by working well.

One of the biggest achievements that this initiative has made is illustrated in the Antarctica treaty. In this treaty, 41 states are involved in decision making process. The countries have also maintained their sovereignty even as they held talks with an outside authority. This clearly illustrates that different countries can work together to achieve their goals.

The environment is regarded as anything that surrounds mankind. It is their duty to take care of it. If neglected, the situation could come back to haunt people that are involved. Measures to be taken are discussed on the talks so that people can learn how to care for anything that surrounds them and the power do discussion.
