Benefits And Disadvantages Of Garmin DC 40 Collar

By Stephanie Hall

Nowadays, those who have a furry companion with them would like to keep them safe and free from harm as possible. Often times, this leads to restricting their activities like prohibiting them from going outside on their own, or using devices that allows their owners to keep track of them. At the end of the day, the purpose is to ensure their safety and prevent a number of dangerous scenarios from happening.

A common item to have these days is a tracking collar. While often regarded as a fairly new addition, it has become widely available and used by people today. Its primary purpose was to help inform hunters of the whereabouts of their animals, but has now been adjusted to a more modern application. To learn more about it, below are the numerous pros and cons of Garmin DC 40 Collar.

Despite the main reason why it was first invented many years ago, this continues to be a widely used item today. Nowadays, they are often worn by dogs and cats, while their owners download and install an application on their personal computers or smart phones to allow them its features. This includes being constantly aware of their whereabouts, especially when you want to give them freedom to roam and explore, but without neglecting their safety.

The biggest advantage of using this device is the assurance that your furry companion does not wander too much, to the point that they become untraceable. But when they do, you will not feel too panicked or worried because you can easily figure out exactly where they are by checking on the GPS transmitter. This way, you can easily go and pick them up yourself. This typically happens when you move to a new neighborhood, where the animal is still getting used to its new surroundings.

Be aware though, that some Garmin models come with a shocking mechanism. This means that you can program it to give your pet a mild and uncomfortable shock in response to certain behaviors they engage in. This typically includes chewing shoes or furniture, inappropriate urination and defecation, barking excessively, and more. Due to this, the device is used by some people to train their animals to do tricks to compete in various talent shows across the world.

When it comes to excessive barking, it has become a major problem for some owners especially those who live within small neighborhoods. It becomes a problem when they constantly do so, even during the wee hours of the morning. Once they start the awful habit, a mild correction shock will hit them. As they continue to bark even louder, the frequency can be adjusted to increase with each new sound.

However, this ultimately results in your pet getting hurt and will likely feel betrayed by their masters for inflicting such pain. While some argue that this is a completely acceptable training method, others claim it to be inhumane and are considered horrible treatment. This all depends upon different point of views, but one cannot disregard the fact that it does indeed, hurt the animal.

Furthermore, constant physical abuse also leads to psychological trauma as well. By associating pain with the unfavorable action they do, they might also come to the conclusion that it is associated with their human. As a result, they become hostile and it becomes difficult to bring them to gatherings and socialize them with other pets.

Moreover, this makes it hard for the animal to respect or trust their owners. Subsequently, this leads to damaged bonds and a strained relationship between them. Nevertheless, the choice is up to the individual and depends on how they utilize the device to their advantage without hurting their pets.
