By Linda Ruiz

Finger foods have recently become the rage and there are hundreds of these smaller items to make for family and friends. Easy slider recipe ideas will get you on the right path with some truly unique and tasty ideas for making and serving these small sandwiches. Serve them as between-meal snacks, mid-day lunches or late at night when you just want something light to munch on.

Not all sliders are made of ground beef although they are the most popular. A multitude of other meats and fillings are available to make this dish an ever-changing, ever- evolving masterpiece for you and your family. They are quick and easy to make and assemble and appeal to all ages. They are perfect for a buffet or can be passed at parties.

Ground beef varieties can be made even tastier with a variety of condiments. Place each one on a white or wheat bun and add tomato slices, mayonnaise, ketchup, pickles, mustard and sliced onions. Serve them with very thin onion rings and shoestring fries to keep the theme intact. Add mini hot doges and tiny shakes to provide 1950's theme foods to the event.

Turkey options are just as tasty as their beef counterparts. Grill a turkey burger, place it on a bun and add a dollop of cranberry sauce on the side. Mayo, shredded lettuce, sliced tomatoes and Swiss cheese are all you need to add to the bun for a healthy version of this favorite food. This is a great fall favorite and can be especially enjoyed around Thanksgiving.

Veggie burgers are the perfect solutions to those who do not or cannot eat meat. Other vegetarian toppings such as tomatoes, onions, pickles, lettuce and vegetarian condiments will add even more flavor. Serve with veggie chips or celery sticks, carrot sticks and broccoli florets for even healthier fare for a scrumptious and quick lunch or nighttime snack.

Cut leftover prime rib or thin slices of ham into smaller pieces and reheat to serve on the miniature buns. Add horseradish to give an extra tasty kick to the beef and a sweet orange or raisin sauce to the ham for a sweet pop of sugary flavor.

Tuna sliders, especially those made with Ahi tune, will appeal to diehard seafood lovers everywhere. Mix or purchase a complementing tartar sauce and add to the buns to emphasize the full flavor of the unique fish sandwich. Crisp French fries or kettle-cooked potato chips are great accompaniments to this meal.

Pulled pork sliders are so easy to make and serve. Simply put the tender meat on a whole wheat bun and enjoy. Onions and pickles can be added to taste. Add baked beans, potato salad and coleslaw on the side for extra mealtime pizazz.

There are so many options to these appetizing and extremely versatile menu options. Serve at picnics, gatherings, family meals, birthdays and cocktail parties. Choose two or more for a truly inviting spread that will appeal to all ages and appetites. Adding a salad station, an array of condiments and a wide selection of mini desserts will give this food spread instant appeal for all of those in attendance.
